  • Clergy Leadership Institutes

The Texas Bible Chair Foundation has designed educational events through their Clergy Leadership Institutes (CLIs). Each CLI is tailored to fulfill one of the 16 Areas of Ministry Practice in the educational programs of both ordained and commissioned ministers:

  • Biblical Knowledge
  • Church Administration
  • Church Communication
  • Cross Cultural and Anti-Racism Ministry
  • Ecumenism
  • Education and Leader Development
  • Ethics
  • Evangelism
  • Mission of the Church in the World
  • Pastoral Care
  • Proclamation of the Word
  • Spiritual Development
  • Stewardship
  • Theology
  • Understanding Disciples Heritage
  • Worship
  • Each year you may substitute one distance learning educational event for these face-to-face events. These will need to be vetted prior to the event by the BBA/LRGVD Committee on Ministry through the auspices of the TBCF.

The CLIs are designed for both ordained and commissioned clergy as well as men and women who are exploring a call to vocational ministry. Individuals currently enrolled in the Commission Ministry Education Program must attend the CLIs as part of their educational requirements. You do not have to have participated in any of the previous sessions to attend an upcoming CLI.

RCOM Changes to Procedure Regarding Clergy Boundaries Training

The following change to procedures was adopted by the Regional Committee On Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest at its September 14-16, 2015 meeting:

“In order to maintain standing, all clergy, ordained or commissioned (including retired), must receive Boundaries Training from a CCSW approved provider every five (5) years. Clergy who have not had boundaries training since December 31, 2010, must complete training by June 30, 2017. CCSW approves the boundaries training programs offered by our partners - Brite Divinity School, the South Central Conference of the United Church of Christ, Hispanic Institute, and the Faith Trust Institute. Clergy will record boundaries training participation on their annual standing reports and document completion by sending copies of the certificate of training to the Regional office.”
