September 2011

Dear Friends:

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

As members of a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation, we are united in ministry with hundreds of Disciples in the more than 70 congregations that are the Bluebonnet Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest.  Together we:

§ Collaborate on ministries that no single church can accomplish;

§ Support congregations in their times of need, transition or stress;

§ Strengthening ministers for their vital role in the congregation;

§ And Connect congregations, clergy and laypersons so that we can celebrate each other’s joys, grieve each other’s losses, learn from each other’s experiences and share each other’s dreams.

While the ministry we share is exciting, it is also a ministry in transition—one in which your input is needed.

As you probably know, our transitional minister, the Rev. Allen Allen, completed his ministry with us last month, and we face the challenge of calling new leadership.  A search committee has been approved and has met with The Rev. Dani Loving-Cartwright to discuss the search process. Committee members are Dr. Jimmy Cobb (FCC, San Marcos), the Rev. Peggy Edge (Central, Austin), the Rev. Bill Howden (Woodlawn, San Antonio), Sandra Imery (Inman Christian Center, San Antonio), The Rev. Terry Neel (FCC, Kingsville), Timo Orta (Spanish, San Antonio), The Rev. Serbando Peralez (Iglesia Cristiana Emanuel), the Rev. Dawn Rosignol (FCC, Burnet), and the Rev. Don Tuttle (North Central, San Antonio and BBA moderator).  The Rev. Rosignol was selected to chair the team, and the Rev. Edge will serve as secretary.

The next steps are where we need your help.

First, please pray for the search committee as it seeks to discern both the direction God is calling the area and who it is that God seeks to lead it.

Second, we are preparing a profile of the area to provide potential candidates.  Below is a link to a form we would ask you to complete on behalf of your congregation and either mail or email to the BBA office by October 1.  The information will help the committee to create a portrait of the Bluebonnet Area.

Finally, we ask that you share with the committee the names of ministers you believe might have the gifts to serve as the BBA minister.  Those names can be sent to the Rev. Rosignol at First Christian Church, 300 Billy Joe Fox Drive, Burnet, Texas 78611 or to revdawn.fccburnet@verizon.net.

While times of transition are always challenging, they can also provide us with opportunities to support one another and discern God’s direction.  With your prayers, your input and your continued financial faithfulness, the Bluebonnet Area will prosper.

With peace,

Don Tuttle, Moderator

Area Search Committtee Begins Work

The newly appointed BBA Minister Search Committee met for the first time September 15th.  The Rev. Dani Loving-Cartwright and the Rev. Chuck Fisher, Minister of the Hi-Plains Area, walked the nine-member group through the search process.

Members of the committee are Dr. Jimmy Cobb (FCC, San Marcos), Rev. Peggy Edge (Central CC, Austin), Rev. Bill Howden (Woodlawn CC, San Antonio), Sandra Imery (Inman Christian Center, San Antonio), Rev. Terry Neel (FCC, Kingsville), TImo Orta (Spanish CC, San Antonio), Rev. Serbando Perazlez (IC Emanuel, San Benito), Rev. Dawn Rosignol (FCC, Burnet) and Rev. Don Tuttle (North Central CC, San Antonio and BBA Moderator).  Dawn Rosignol was selected to chair the team and Peggy Edge will serve as secretary.

The BBA is one of four areas in the Southwest Region that is without permanent pastoral leadership.  The committee is exploring ways that the BBA and another area or other areas might share ministerial leadership.

Other steps in the process include preparing an area profile, reviewing the job description and soliciting the names of potential candidates.

The committee requested the prayers of the BBA churches as well as the names of ministers who might be candidates for the position.

Recommendations may be sent to Dawn Rosignol at revdawn.fccburnet@verizon.net or by calling her at (830) 613-9393.
